Natural Disasters in 2026: Floods and Crisis Updates

Pakistan’s 2025 monsoon flood emergency caused more than 1,000 deaths by late September, with the highest reported losses in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. ReliefWeb’s post-season update, citing national authorities and UN humanitarian reporting, said the final nationwide death toll reached 1,037, with 504 deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 304 in Punjab, alongside 1,067 injuries. Earlier UN reporting in August already described a fast-escalating disaster with 739 deaths, more than 978 injuries, and widespread destruction of homes and livestock as heavy rains and flash floods continued. The floods affected at least 6.9 million people by the end of September, with major impacts in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Sindh. Damage included more than 229,700 homes destroyed or partially damaged, about 2,811 km of roads affected, and 790 bridges damaged, while millions were displaced at the peak of the crisis. Relief and early recovery planning for October 2025 to April 2026 sought US$151 million to assist 1.6 million people in 14 priority districts, indicating that the humanitarian and recovery needs remained substantial after the floodwaters receded.
